AIFi Lab

Prof. Dorien Herremans heads the AI for Finance (AIFi) lab at Singapore University of Technology and Design. The lab works on topics such as deep learning trading algorithms, portfolio management, generative AI for synthetic data generation, volatility prediction, applied to various markets, including digital assets.

Some of our publications include:

The AIFi Lab at SUTD invites applications for a PhD position in the exciting and rapidly evolving field of FinTech and Artificial Intelligence.

The AIFi lab, led by Prof. Dorien Herremans, is engaged in cutting-edge research at the intersection of FinTech and Artificial Intelligence. We are based in tropical Singapore, a hub for AI research and startups, but also a great base to explore South East Asia, where English is the first language. Our PhD students and PostDoc researchers work on projects that explore areas such as:

  • Generative model, LLMs and FinTech.
  • Deep Learning for trading and portfolio optimization.
  • Technologies for new markets such as blockchain and digital assets.
  • Other AI applications in FinTech.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A strong academic background in computer science, electrical engineering, FinTech, or a related field.
  • A demonstrated passion for finance and a keen interest in artificial intelligence.
  • Excellent programming skills and experience with relevant machine learning libraries (PyTorch etc).
  • The ability to work independently while also thriving in a collaborative research environment.
  • Strong communication and writing skills.
  • The ability to focus and persevere/problem solve for a task

To Apply:
Please apply to the SUTD PhD portal AND send me an email with your application number.

Deadlines:
- We have funded positions for Singaporean and ASEAN (Thailand, etc.) students, deadline is 30 September. (Applying earlier is better though.)
- Applications are on a 6 month cycle.
- Singaporeans/PR with strong ties to industry may also check out the IPP program.

International (non-ASEAN) students will ALSO need to submit an application for funding and will be processed in the next cycle for Jan 2025 admission:
- Please submit in the SUTD portal, AND apply for funding, either at:

Our team looks forward to receiving your application!
